lyrics

Sammy the Seal
by Dean Friedman

Sammy the Seal ate a very big meal of kippers and codfish and roe.
Then he flapped his fins, said, “I’m going to swim”. But Sammy’s mommy said, “No.”
“Whenever you eat a lot,” She said, “Whenever your tummy is full.
There’s one thing you should not forget, or it would be horrible.”

Don’t ever go swimming after a meal. That’s a big mistake.
‘cause if you go swimming after a meal, you’ll have a terrible tummy ache.
You’ll have a terrible tummy ache.

As Sammy sat, there came along his best friend Otto the Otter.
And even though Sammy knew it was wrong, they both jumped into the water.
They flipped and flopped with splashes and squirts and diving up and down.
‘til Sammy said, “Oh, my tummy hurts. And I think I’m going to drown.”

Don’t ever go swimming after a meal. That’s a big mistake.
‘cause if you go swimming after a meal, you’ll have a terrible tummy ache.
You’ll have a terrible tummy ache.

Now, Sammy’s mommy was taking a nap when she heard a big commotion.
And when she saw her Sammy there, she jumped right into the ocean.
She swam and swam and rescued him and carried him to the shore.
And when she got there, Sammy said, “I’ll never do that anymore.”

So, don’t ever go swimming after a meal. That’s a big mistake.
‘cause if you go swimming after a meal, you’ll have a terrible tummy ache.
You’ll have a terrible tummy ache.
